ERGONS Advances Circular Economy Initiatives Through Waste Characterization Study in Tagbilaran City, Bohol
ERGONS Project Marketing Consultant undertook the Waste Analysis and Characterization Study (WACS) for Tagbilaran City, Bohol, commissioned by the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH under the European Union–Philippines Green Economy Partnership. The project supports the promotion of circular economy practices and improved solid waste management, with particular emphasis on plastic waste generation, recovery, and diversion.
The study involved a comprehensive seven-day waste characterization survey covering household, commercial, institutional, and other waste-generating sectors. ERGONS conducted waste sampling, segregation, weighing, classification, and data analysis to determine waste generation rates, composition, plastic waste streams, and potential waste diversion opportunities. The assessment also examined existing waste management practices and identified opportunities to strengthen segregation, recycling, and resource recovery systems.
The study provides technical and data-driven inputs for Tagbilaran City's solid waste management planning, including improvements to collection systems, materials recovery facilities, and plastic waste processing strategies. Through stakeholder engagement and capacity development, the project also supports the City's ability to undertake future waste characterization studies, contributing to sustainable resource management and the transition toward a circular economy.
ERGONS Supports ADB-Funded Initiative to Strengthen DPWH Multi-Year Infrastructure Planning
ERGONS Project Marketing Consultant, in association with Eptisa Philippines Inc., provided consulting services for the Improving Growth Corridors in Mindanao Road Sector Project (Loan No. 3631-PHI), financed by the Asian Development Bank (ADB). The assignment focused on strengthening the institutional capacity of the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) in multi-year infrastructure planning, investment programming, and information management to support more effective development of road networks and related infrastructure.
ERGONS contributed technical expertise in Geographic Information Systems (GIS), computer programming, data management, and infrastructure planning support. Key activities included reviewing existing DPWH planning systems and procedures, updating and validating road and bridge inventory data, improving GIS-based analytical tools, and supporting the modernization of the Multi-Year Planning System (MYPS) from a Visual Basic platform to a web-based application. The assignment also covered enhancements to road asset management systems, infrastructure investment prioritization, and technical documentation.
The project supported more integrated, data-driven, and systematic infrastructure planning across DPWH offices, including the Central Office, Regional Offices, and District Engineering Offices. Through technical assistance, systems enhancement, and capacity development, the initiative aimed to strengthen institutional coordination, improve infrastructure investment decisions, and promote sustainable road network development, particularly within Mindanao's strategic growth corridors.
ERGONS Secures Environmental Permits for PMFTC's Solar Energy Expansion and Facility Upgrades in Batangas
ERGONS Project Marketing Consultant successfully completed an environmental permitting and regulatory compliance assignment for PMFTC Inc.'s manufacturing facility in Tanauan City, Batangas. The engagement supported the facility's expansion and operational modifications, particularly the installation of additional ground-mounted and rooftop solar power systems and the updating of environmental permits for its Air Pollution Source Installations (APSIs).
ERGONS provided comprehensive technical assistance covering site inspections, environmental assessments, preparation of the Project Description Report, Engineer's Reports, and supporting regulatory documentation. The assignment included applications for an amended Environmental Compliance Certificate (ECC) for the solar power installations, an amended Permit to Operate (PTO) for equipment scheduled for decommissioning, and a new PTO for additional air pollution sources. ERGONS also coordinated closely with DENR-EMB CALABARZON throughout the technical evaluation and permitting processes.
The assignment was successfully completed in February 2024, with ERGONS securing the amended ECC, amended PTO, and new PTO required for the facility modifications. This engagement demonstrates ERGONS' expertise in industrial environmental permitting, regulatory compliance, and renewable energy-related project approvals, supporting responsible industrial development and the integration of cleaner energy technologies.
ERGONS Strengthens Environmental Regulatory Compliance for PMFTC Sales Offices in Nueva Ecija and Bulacan
ERGONS Project Marketing Consultant was engaged by PMFTC Inc. to provide environmental permitting and regulatory compliance services for its sales offices in Cabanatuan City, Nueva Ecija, and Guiguinto, Bulacan. The assignment covers the preparation and processing of Discharge Permits (DP), Permits to Operate (PTO), and Hazardous Waste Generator Identification Numbers (HWID) through the Department of Environment and Natural Resources–Environmental Management Bureau (DENR-EMB) Region III.
ERGONS undertook site inspections and environmental compliance assessments, including the identification and establishment of appropriate hazardous waste storage areas in accordance with DENR Administrative Order 2013-22. The technical services include preparation of Engineer's Reports, Environmental Monitoring Plans, Hazardous Waste Management Plans, and Contingency and Emergency Plans, together with supporting technical drawings and documentation. ERGONS also facilitated registration in the DENR-EMB online permitting systems and preparation and submission of the required permit applications.
Through this engagement, ERGONS supports PMFTC in strengthening environmental management practices and meeting applicable regulatory requirements for wastewater discharge, air pollution sources, and hazardous waste management. The assignment demonstrates ERGONS' expertise in industrial and commercial environmental permitting, technical documentation, and regulatory coordination, contributing to responsible and environmentally compliant business operations.
